Derby and Nottingham Bridal Portraits

I consider myself to be an experienced wedding photographer based in the Nottingham & Derby area.  I've been fortunate enough to travel around the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire area and share many special moments with bride and grooms who have entrusted me with their wedding photography.

I pride myself on having a modern, clean and contemporary style of photography and I am often booked for my dramatic "Wow!" portraits which I create using the latest off camera flash techniques.

However, one of the things I often teach my students is that just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

What I mean by that is just because I can use flash, doesn't mean I should always use flash.

Natural light is very flattering and whilst in the Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire areas, it may not always be sunny.  Sometimes we are blessed with amazing light.  When that happens we should use it!

For this particular photograph, I wanted a very simple elegant portrait of Gemma who got married at the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country club.  With such a gorgeous backdrop and such a beautiful bride.  No flash was necessary at all.

This bridal portrait was taken in less than ten seconds. I simply asked Gemma to hold the corner of her cathedral length veil, look down at it and smile.  That was it.  Simple, effective.

I am known for my dramatic sky wedding portraits and it is often what I share on social media.  In reality I do use natural light a lot.

In my opinion, the best wedding photographers understand where good light can be found and they leverage it.
