This photo is a very special wedding portrait to me. Gift of a Wedding contacted me and asked if I would be willing to donate my time. They needed a Wentbridge House wedding photographer for Gemma & Maggie's wedding. I was thrilled and nervously excited to be chosen to provide such special memories for them.
Gift of a Wedding specialises in providing dream weddings to people who have a terminal illness such as cancer.
I was quite nervous that I would be so emotional that I wouldn't be able to do my job but thankfully I was concentrating so hard during their ceremony that I was 'in the zone' so to speak.
I do confess shedding a few tears during the first dance where you could see the powerful emotions on both Gemma & Maggie's face. I honestly don't think there was a dry eye in the house.
During the wedding breakfast, my assistant came rushing in from outside and said "Martin! Have you seen the sunset?" I ran outside and saw the most epic sunset this year. We quickly told Maggie & Gemma who were more than happy to interrupt their dessert for this photograph. It was a little windy so we used that to our advantage to make Gemma's veil 'fly away'
When I looked at the back of the camera, it was one of those moments when you think "NAILED IT!"
It was my absolute honour to have shared in their most special day. And to have been able to follow their journey ever since.
I hope my wedding photographs will serve as a timeless reminder of an amazing couple.
