The West Mill in Derby is one of the most epic wedding locations I have seen in a long time. Last year I was booked to be The West Mill Derby wedding photographer for Shona & Oliver. It was a bit of a leap of faith for the couple since it hadn’t actually opened yet but from what they’d seen it looked very promising so they booked it on faith. At the time I looked on their website but other than a few photographs using a model bride & groom, there was little to see.
Well wind forward a year and The West Mill has very quickly garnered one of the best reputations in the area, if not the country. And it’s easy to see why. It is an utterly unique venue fusing vintage charm with a modern look. Every aspect of the venue has been restored to the highest standards. The modern exposed brickwork combined with cast iron beams work really well together. The owners really have put a lot of thought into the layout. For example, a bridal getting ready room where the bridal party can pamper themselves before the wedding. A lift in case you have guests that struggle to use stairs or if you’ve simply danced too much and are too tired!
Set on the edge of the Derwent river and overlooking a waterfall, it really is a truly beautiful venue for photographs.
I recently met another couple who want to get married at The West Mill too for a consultation and she quipped “When I went into the ladies bathroom I thought WOW, I could just get married here!”. With high praise like that I had to investigate and I do understand now! If you are unsure go visit and find out for yourselves.
Last week I had the privilege of photographing my first wedding at The West Mill. I had been very much looking forward to it. Since the mill is very local to where I live, I had already visited previously to scope out the best places to use for photographs. However, it really is such a beautiful venue that you would struggle to take a bad photograph. Rain or shine, there’s enough nooks & cranny’s to use, limited only by your wedding photographer’s imagination.
For now I will leave you with a preview photograph from Shona & Oliver’s wedding. As soon as I have edited the entire set, I will update this page with more examples of my work.
But in the meantime if you are planning on getting married at the West Mill and would like a wedding photographer in Derby who will work tirelessly to give you the wedding photographs you deserve then please drop me a message.
