Rebecca & Robert – West Mill Derby Wedding Photographs

The West Mill is an exclusive use wedding venue set on the banks of the river Derwent in Derby. It opened its doors in 2015 and quickly has become one of Derbyshire’s most impressive and popular locations for engaged couples to tie the knot.

I have been lucky enough to have been asked to be a West Mill wedding photographer for a few bride and grooms who are getting married here. Every time I visit, I find new nooks and crannies to use. The designers have purposely kept much of the original features including the red brick walls, cast-iron rusty ceiling and giant Georgian windows. They’ve even kept the original glass. If you look closely enough. Some of the window panes still have the names of the factory workers etched in them!

Those massive windows also ensure that there is plenty of natural light flooding into the venue to make it an absolute dream to photograph in. Any experienced Derbyshire wedding photographer will be glad to document your special day in this unique and quirky venue.

Set over three floors and with enough capacity to cater for up to 160 guests. The West Mill could be the perfect place if you are planning on a wedding that is a little bit different from the norm.

The ceremony room is on the third floor. Right next door is the dedicated getting ready room for the bride. This makes it incredibly convenient for her to make a dramatic entrance without having to factor in travel time and risk being late due to traffic.

One floor down is a separate room for the wedding breakfast. A stunning room with original stone flooring and iron wall pillars. Once the speeches are over and the food eaten. Guests can move down to the first floor where another room is dedicated to the evening reception and party.

Being an exclusive hire venue, of course you have the entire run of the public areas of the building. So guests can spill back onto the other floors if they wish to have a little bit of quiet time during the party. It’s also very convenient for stunning couples portraits should the weather be inclement. In fact, even during sunny days I tend to make full use of the unique architecture which the West Mill offers.

It is very difficult to describe what a wonderful venue The West Mill is. All I can do is recommend you go and visit them. Be warned. You will fall in love with the place. As one bride said to me: “I went to the toilet and thought ‘wow! The toilets are so nice I could get married here!” Luckily she didn’t have to and the ceremony room was available 🙂

As a local Derbyshire wedding photographer I would love to hear from you if you are getting married here. Being right on my doorstep means I am familiar with not just the venue but the surrounding area so I know the best places for the best wedding day photographs. Have a look at my recent photos from The West Mill and drop me a message if you’d like to chat more.

Rebecca & Robert’s West Mill Wedding Photographs

Here are a selection of West Mill wedding photographs I took as part of Rebecca & Robert’s wedding. I met the happy couple last year not long after they got engaged. During our initial meeting, it came out that not only did Rebecca & I grow up in the same village. She actually went to the same school as my sisters and knew them! What a small world eh?
I had so much fun at their wedding and took so many amazing photographs. Here are a few of my favourites which I hope you all enjoy.

If you are getting married at the West Mill in Derby and looking for a wedding photographer who knows how to make the most of the venue and deliver photographs you’ll be proud to hang on your wall. Do drop me a message and let’s have a chat about your wedding plans.
